The rapid growth and development of Australian wine in the 1990s was driven largely by individuals: innovative and collaborative change-makers who contributed their knowledge and time to the greater good of the sector.

The Future Leaders program is the wine community’s peak personal and professional leadership program. It is designed for the next crop of those who are ready to step up and take their businesses and our sector to the next level.

If you’re one of the lucky few to be involved in this program you’ll hear from some of Australia’s best speakers on topics such as innovation, leadership and culture. You’ll connect with people from across the Australian grape and wine community, including our Future Leaders Alumni.

Applications for FL2021 will open in January and close in March. FL2021 will begin in June of 2021 and conclude in November 2021.

If you’re ready to take your business and our sector to the next level, read on …

You will be early to mid-career and work in any section of the grape and wine community: you could be a winemaker or grapegrower; a business manager or marketer; a supplier or researcher.

The two things that you will have in common with other applicants is your open, creative, inquisitive mind and a demonstrated commitment to the wine sector’s success.

You will be ready to step up and be next and you’ll have a sneaky suspicion that you already are (or could be) an innovator, collaborator and change-maker.

No – we’re looking for people who are early to mid-career and have shown themselves to be an emerging leader of the sector, regardless of age.

There will be at least 15 applicants chosen for Future Leaders.

Application details will open in January 2021.

If you’re successful, there will be four face-to-face sessions, and six online sessions, between June and November 2021. Each session will be run over 1-4 days and each will require travel to locations across Australia. To be offered a place, you must be willing and able to attend all sessions.

Wine Australia funds and manages the Future Leaders program with the support of Australian Grape & Wine (formerly the Winemakers’ Federation of Australia and Australian Vignerons).

Participants are expected to pay their own travel and accommodation costs.

The panel consists of representatives from Wine Australia, Australian Grape & Wine, sponsors and Future Leaders’ Alumni.

Since 2006 there have been 122 Future Leaders graduates. Many have taken roles at regional wine and grapegrower associations and some have also been appointed to national committees and boards.
